Classes Of The Month
"At first thought, a childbirth class might seem like another unnecessary prenatal purchase. If you're signing up to take a course, why would you need a recording? But think about having the freedom to watch at your own pace rather than schedule your life around the sessions. And the chance to watch key parts over and over.
If this is starting to sound good, consider the recently revamped 'Laugh and Learn About Childbirth'. The focus is on natural childbirth, but even if you're pro-epidural, you'll learn key information. Besides the basics like mom's anatomy and labor signs, instructor Sheri Bayles, B.S.N., R.N., teaches you about body changes that are sure labor tip-offs and decodes doctor speak so you'll feel comfortable in the hospital. The tone is lighthearted, but it's backed by experience: Bayles has been a labor and delivery nurse and is a certified lactation consultant as well as a Lamaze instructor.
Her jokes are actually funny, and the information is priceless. Our pick for playing again and again: the section on labor comforts, which shows pillow-supported positions and how your partner can massage you. "
Though I have read many very informative childbirth education books at the local Barnes and Nobles none have kept me as interested as the Laugh and Learn book and videos. The Writer Sheri Bayles truly is the perfect companion throughout your Educational experience; with this set of videos she is to the point and not at all judgmental about different views on child birthing (natural birth, epidural or no epidural)!! She really makes learning about Newborn Care, Childbirth education and Breastfeeding basics an entertaining yet educational experience!
The first video out of the three I watched was the Laugh and Learn about Childbirth. Though I am not pregnant I did just deliver my 4th son at the end of July and while I thought I knew everything there is to know about childbirth, Sheri Bayles goes above and beyond what even my Obstetrician ever had. She talks about everything from A to Z including; Signs of Labor, Breathing Techniques, Comfort Measures, Delivery, Pushing, the knowledge of Cord Blood banking and so much more.
It was wonderful to see actual real women with real babies in the Breastfeeding and Newborn Care videos. She had some wonderful ideas for sore breasts due to breastfeeding. She recommended cutting a head of cabbage (not lettuce, doesn’t have the same effect) in half and then putting it in the refrigerator and grabbing a few pieces at a time to stuff in your nursing bra to relieve the pain of sore nipples, now why I never thought of this I will never know. Sheri made sure to cover all the key areas and then some.
A few of the lessons were on breastfeeding positions, how to breastfeed twins, overcoming obstacles and how to choose the right nursing bras nightgowns and nursing pads.
My husband definitely agrees with me that even though we have seen many childbirth education videos, weather it was before delivery at child birthing classes of after delivery before we left the hospital, nothing kept our attention as well as Sheri had. We really felt as if Sheri were our own personal nurse, just a sort of comfort that she really knew what she was talking about and very much enjoys what she does.
It was so nice to be able to watch and learn about so many different parts of childbirth, newborn care and breastfeeding in the comfort of our own home and on our own time. Thank you for such an educational experience Sheri Bayles, it’s wonderful having such an honest opinion from a Nurse rather than one that’s just “following the fad”!! Sheri also talked about what products she liked best and why, such as different breastpumps (should you rent or buy, should you get an automatic or manual, double or singe?). and something I have never heard of before……why you shouldn’t start out breastfeeding with a Boppy or a My Breast Friend pillow until you and your baby are more comfortable with breastfeeding (watch her class to find out why). Good thinking Sheri, as I have said previously you really do see above and beyond what any obstetrician I have personally ever dealt with does and I feel very comfortable with your teachings. There are so many questions among new parents and Sheri covers them all!!! I would recommend this Book & online classes set to any new mother and father!!
As They Grown Up
I recently was sent the Laugh and Learn About Childbirth Book to take a peak at. I had never heard of Sheri Bales or the Laugh and Lean series before, but I will admit that I have really enjoyed reading this book.
This book would be a wonderful gift for expecting Moms-to-be. I really found this book super informative and so much fun to read. I was shocked that even though I have had three children and I read a ton while I was pregnant with my son I still learned a lot from this book.
It covers every aspect of childbirth that you could possibly have a question about. Laugh and Learn About Childbirth is filled with over 40 illustrations, 6 easy to understand chapters and numerous tips for even your partner.
Mommy PR – The Cloth Diaper Report
When I was pregnant with my daughter I had two 5-inch thick pregnancy books, supplemental materials on natural birth and I spent hours reading information online. I took some classes that were offered at the hospital as well and I felt that I was sufficiently educated and prepared; however, as my due date got closer, I was overwhelmed. I felt that the important information on labor, breastfeeding and newborn care was mixed in with other interesting, but what seemed like "extra" information at the time and got a little anxious.
The book that accompanies the Childbirth Class is less than an inch thick! This means that you can easily pop it in your purse to read in the waiting room and it has all of the information from the videos, plus a little extra information tucked into a portable version of the Childbirth class. It is clearly organized and has good illustrations and diagrams to help support the text. I would definitely recommend this book and the online class to anyone expecting or trying to conceive and plan on watching them again when we get pregnant with our second baby!
Savvy Mom On Call
It’s finally arrived Parents-To-Be and New Parents–something we have all been waiting for–the first collection of online classes about Labor and Delivery, Breastfeeding and About Newborn Baby Care that comes with a super handy book that is actually less than 130 pages! As one of those expecting parents that signed up for every expensive hospital class offered and barely used anything because I couldn’t remember anything after I had my first contraction, take it from me, this collection is so worth the price. You can view the collection whenever you want and refer to it as many times as you need.
Founder of 'Laugh and Learn', Sheri Bayles is a Registered Nurse from Norwalk, Connecticut, who worked at New York Presbyterian in New York City for 30+ years. Sheri shows us the light at the end of the tunnel and entertains us, all while providing us with what we need to know.
Is Sheri qualified you may ask? Well, Sheri is an OB/GYN nurse, Lamaze Certified Childbirth Educator and an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant. Yes, I would definitely say she is! I am beyond impressed by these classes and book. I wish I had them during my first pregnancy!
Did I mention how many celebrities are raving about this product? Just to name a few, Brooke Shields, Salma Hayek, Victoria Secret Super Model Adriana Lima, J-Lo and Mark Anthony, Halle Berry, Laila Ali, Jessica Alba and the list goes on and on. Now, I know what you are thinking, how much must this cost if celebrities are using it? Well, this fabulous collection is even affordable for non-celebrities like us!!!!
